Paper Industry

Optical Brighteners

White paper needs a high degree of whiteness, which can be obtained by means of the quality of the bleaching chemicals and also with the use of optical brighteners.
Optical brighteners can be added at three stages of the papermaking process:
  1. At the pulp stage
  2. Impregnation of paper surface
  3. During coating.

1. The Pulp Stage
The brighteners are added in aqueous solution to paper pulp in the mixing chest.
We can offer brighteners in both powders as well as in liquid form.
Products suitable at the Pulp Stage are: MEGAWHITE BBU, MEGAWHITE BA and MEGAWHITE BSU are available in liquid form while MEGAWHITE 2B is only available in powder form.

2. Impregnation of Paper Surface
The paper web is impregnated from one or both sides with optical brightener with a brightener solution. In the size press only one side of paper is brightened. Paper is often coated with binder and pigment, which reduces the whiteness. To make up the loss in whiteness brighteners are added. Brighteners for impregnation are suitable for coating purpose.
Products suitable at the Impregnation of Paper Surface are: MEGAWHITE BBU, MEGAWHITE BA and MEGAWHITE BSU can be available in liquid form while MEGAWHITE 2B, MEGAWHITE WHN and MEGAWHITE BST are available in powder form.

3. Paper Surface Coating
Paper is often coated with binder and pigment, which reduces the whiteness. To make up the loss in whiteness brighteners are added.
Products suitable at the Paper Surface Coating stage are: MEGAWHITE BBU, MEGAWHITE BA and MEGAWHITE BSU can be available in liquid form while MEGAWHITE 2B, MEGAWHITE WHN and MEGAWHITE BST are available in powder form.

Metal Soaps

Soaps, Metal Soaps and Fatty acids are some of the main auxiliary agents used in the manufacture of used paper and also coated papers.

De-inking - As focus on recycling continues to grow a result of this has increased the demand for better quality auxiliary de-inking agents which in turn has produced a higher quality recycled paper.

Slip Additives - With higher processing speeds now achievable the demand for a trouble free process is as important as ever. Soaps and Metal Soaps now play a major role in easing production problems thus reducing production down time. Stearates also:

  • Reduce foam formation
  • Increase Waterproofing
  • Improve Gloss (Coated Paper)
  • Improve smoothness

Abrasive Papers - In dry grinding application Metal Soaps will substantially reduce friction in the process, which results in lower processing temperatures.
